Boost #87 Focused Relationships

Do Not Commit Adultery

One way to uncover deeper insight into the Ten Commandments is by comparing them horizontally — the five on one tablet with the five on the other. For instance, “Do not commit adultery” aligns with “Do not have other gods before Me” (idolatry).

What can idolatry teach us about adultery? Focus.

The prohibition against idolatry teaches us to direct our service  and “Godly” needs toward God alone — to serve His purpose for the world and to seek meaning and transcendence only through Him.

Applied to human relationships, especially marriage, this means channeling our emotional energy and efforts into strengthening that specific bond — finding fulfillment and connection within it, not outside it.

This inevitably calls for commitment, patience, and hard work. But, like all things truly worthwhile, that’s what it takes.

One time this week, think about the relationships you should be focused on and what that means.

Set your intention for the day by reciting The Aseret Affirmation: Ten for Ten first thing in the morning.

Wishing you safety and strength,
