Teens Informal Curriculum

The Aseret Teens Informal Program invites Jewish teens to rediscover who they are and what they stand for through the timeless wisdom of the Ten Commandments (Aseret HaDibrot). Far more than a list of ancient rules, the Ten Commandments serve as our Core Values — a “spiritual notebook” that reminds us of our mission and guides how we live, choose, and relate to others.

Through an 11-part course of engaging activities, group discussions, and real-life scenarios, teens learn to unpack each Diber on two levels: the literal (p’shat) and the foundational (yesod). They’ll explore how the commandments shape their decisions about friendships, family, peer pressure, and moral challenges, and how the covenantal nature of the commandments inspires them to contribute to something greater than themselves.

By the end of the program, teens emerge with practical tools for decision-making, a renewed sense of Jewish identity, and a clearer understanding of how ancient principles can shape modern lives.

Adults Informal Curriculum

In today’s busy world, many adults find themselves asking big questions: Who am I? What do I stand for? What guides my choices? Elie Wiesel once described modern Jews as messengers who have forgotten their message. The Aseret Adults Informal Program helps reconnect us to that message — the Ten Commandments (Aseret HaDibrot) — which contain our essential Core Values in just 172 words.

Through 12 engaging group learning, reflective discussions, and meaningful conversations, participants explore the Ten Commandments as more than a set of rules — they are a spiritual “notebook,” a framework for living with purpose, clarity, and a sense of covenant. The program dives into how these statements shape our moral compass, influence our everyday decisions, and serve as the spiritual DNA of the Jewish people.

From the mass revelation at Sinai to today’s living rooms and classrooms, this course encourages adults to see the Ten Commandments as the roots from which all Torah wisdom branches out — the heart that gives life to the body of Jewish practice. Together, participants rediscover these timeless values and leave with a clearer sense of identity, mission, and connection to their community and heritage.

WAVE Curriculum

Aseret’s WAVE (Women’s Aseret Values Education) Curriculum is a transformative learning experience designed to inspire Jewish women to embrace the Ten Commandments as a living guide for leadership and personal growth. Through an engaging framework of Torah study, discussion, and practical application, participants explore each Commandment’s central mitzvah, core value, and the character attribute it cultivates. The program blends text-based learning with experiential exercises, reflection, and real-life challenges to help women align thought, speech, and action with timeless Jewish values. Suitable for adult women from diverse backgrounds, WAVE fosters personal integrity, joy, commitment, and purposeful influence—empowering participants to transmit these values in their homes, communities, and beyond.

High School Curriculum (Full)

Aseret’s 12th Grade Workbook is designed to guide high school seniors through a powerful exploration of the Ten Commandments (Aseret HaDibrot) as Core Values — the essential principles that can shape every major decision they will face as they step into adulthood. The course is designed for 2- 3 lessons on each commandment, making it a full-year course; however, teachers can adapt the curriculum to a more concise course by selecting the relevant sections they would like to teach. Assessment is conducted through teacher observation of student engagement and understanding, review of student workbook notes, and discretionary projects or assignments designed by the teacher.

For 12 years, students have learned within structured environments where most choices were about complying with school rules. Now, as they prepare to enter a world with far greater freedom — whether college, the workforce, or national service — they will encounter countless moments that challenge them to choose the right path, this course helps students discover a value system rooted in the source of Jewish Values, the Ten Commandments, to anchor those choices with clarity and confidence.

Through a fresh, paradigm-shifting lens, students unpack the Ten Commandments as broad, living principles that go far beyond simple do’s and don’ts. They learn how these statements are embedded in their spiritual DNA, intended to guide their actions, relationships, and sense of responsibility in the modern world.

Combining thoughtful text study, personal reflection, and real-life application, the Aseret High School Course helps students reconnect to Judaism’s enduring moral compass — equipping them to make principled decisions, build strong character, and live their mission with purpose in every setting they enter next.

Elementary Shcool Curriculum

The Aseret Elementary Curriculum is a 10-part program (suggested 30–45 minutes each over ten weeks) that brings the Ten Commandments (Aseret HaDibrot) to young learners in a way that is meaningful, relatable, and age-appropriate. In discussion-based classes based on the Aseret book and accompanying graphics, children discover that these few powerful verses hold the heart of the Torah, forming the foundation for a life of purpose, responsibility, and joy. The book can be used as the teacher’s special book taken out for discussion time or printed for each student as a home resource and a graphic hook for each discussion.   

Through stories, discussion, and engaging activities, students learn to decode the Aseret HaDibrot, not just as ancient words engraved on stone tablets, but living Core Values engraved in their hearts. They explore how these commandments shape everyday life — from honoring parents, to telling the truth, to finding happiness by appreciating what they already have (Don’t Covet).

Rooted in our covenant with God, the program helps children understand that every Diber carries a promise: if we listen, live by these values, and guard this covenant, we help build a better world together. Lessons nurture gratitude, contentment, kindness, and respect, empowering each child to see their unique gifts and role in the Jewish story. Projects and activities around each discussion is left to the teacher’s discretion. 

Whether taught at home, in schools, or in informal settings, the Aseret Elementary Program helps the next generation discover the joy of living with Core Values — and plants seeds for a lifetime of Jewish learning, connection, and growth. Assessment is integrated naturally into the flow of each discussion through teacher observations of student engagement, participation, and understanding.

Middle School Curriculum

Ten Commandments Framework:
Each session focuses on one of the Aseret Hadibrot, introduced in both Hebrew and English, with accompanying visual aids and student activity sheets. Students reflect on the Diber’s relevance and its ethical implications through discussions, scenarios, and value-matching exercises. Assessment is conducted through teacher observation of student engagement and understanding, review of student workbook notes, and discretionary projects or assignments designed by the teacher.

Core Values Matching:
Students are introduced to a corresponding Core Value for each commandment (e.g., integrity, gratitude, self-control), and match these values to the Dibrot using specially designed cards. This encourages personal reflection and ownership of the material.

Hands-On Learning:
The curriculum includes interactive elements like cutting, matching, gluing, and building their own “Two Tablets” (Luchot), helping students internalize the commandments visually and kinesthetically.

Student Expression & Dialogue:
Each lesson encourages discussion, journal writing, and peer sharing, allowing students to express how the Core Values show up in their lives and communities.

Teacher Support:
Lesson plans include clear guidance, classroom setup tips, and creative prompts to ensure a smooth and impactful learning experience. Optional introductory notes and visual layout samples help educators prepare effectively.

Celebrate the Learning:
At the end of the ten sessions, schools are invited to hold a celebration, offering support in crafting a meaningful culmination experience. Students can reflect on their journey and share what they’ve learned with peers and families.
