Boost #65 Eternal Truths

Honor your father and your mother

In a world captivated by the new, it’s natural to be drawn to the latest innovations, to ride the wave of cutting-edge technology, and to feel energized by movements pushing for progress. These are noble pursuits. But if we move too quickly—chasing what’s next without pausing to look back—we risk losing sight of the timeless truths that shaped generations before us.

The Fifth Commandment, “Honor your father and your mother,” is not a passive instruction—it’s a living, dynamic call to action. It challenges us to express deep gratitude, and to recognize the profound wisdom passed down through those who gave us life. It reminds us that there are truths—eternal truths—that no new discovery, algorithm, or trend can replace.

When I reflect on the guidance my parents gave me, I return to the values they instilled: that righteousness is non-negotiable, and that every human being deserves respect. These aren’t just personal values but eternal pillars of a meaningful life.

Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch captured it beautifully:

“Honoring your father and mother is the basic condition for the eternal existence of the Jewish nation.” Commentary on Shemot 20:12

G-d does not change, and neither do the truths He shared with us. Their wisdom is not outdated—they are enduring. They are sacred.
